vytorin and zetia
i am sure many of you have heard the news: although zetia and vytorin (zetia + zocor) were effective in lowering cholesterol, they did little to prevent progression of atherosclerotic disease in the arteries that were examined. They did not seem to cause any harm. Dr. DeLaney and i (not to mention leaders in the field) believe the results suggest that Zetia, at the time of this blog, should only be considered in those who cannot get to their cholesterol goal with a statin (lipitor, zocor, lescol, mevacor, pravachol, crestor) alone. We will be stopping these medications and trying to maximize the statin dose as tolerated to get you to your cholesterol goal. If we do not contact you, please call the office to intiate this change. david katzman
